Uses
Because of its low density, a mixture of Heliox flows through an orifice much more easily than air. Medical gas mixture is used in the following circumstances:

• To assist the flow of oxygen into the alveoli of patients with severe respiratory obstruction.
• To prevent atelectasis.

Dosage and Administration
There is no distinction in the use of Heliox medical gas mixture between age groups. Heliox medical gas mixture is used for respiratory function tests and relief of airway obtructions. The duration and circumstances of the use of Heliox oxygen medical gas mixture is at the discretion of the attending physician. Heliox medical gas mixture is administered by inhalation through the lungs. Cylinders should only be used in conjunction with medical oxygen gas pressure regulators.
