About Nitrogen

Commercial nitrogen is used in many industrial applications as either a cryogenic liquid or an inert gas. The main use for liquid nitrogen is a refrigerant for the freezing or chilling of prepared foods. Other cryogenic uses include quick chilling of plastic molds for increased production, and the environmentally friendly recovery of solvent vapors.

Gaseous nitrogen is used primarly as an inert that blankets, purges or shields hazardous medium from unwanted chemical reactions. Its inert qualities are also used to prevent oxidation in both the heat treating of metals and the packaging of snack food.

Production and Distribution Network

Liquid nitrogen is produced by the fractional distillation of liquefied air. Each gas oxygen, nitrogen, argon, neon, krypton, xenon has a different boiling point. Gases are separated based on their different boiling points in a distillation column.

BOC Gases operates 33 air separation plants nationwide with capacities up to 2,800 tons per day. These plants currently produce and deliver more than 2 million tons of nitrogen each year. All BOC air separation plants are, or are in the process of becoming, ISO 9002 registred.

The BOC National Scheduling Center operates round-the-clock to accommodate both scheduled and emergency deliveries. Our TEL-TANKTM telemetry system enables BOC and our customers to remotely monitor liquid levels, ensuring timely deliveries.

With more than 650 retail locations, BOC has the largest distributor network in the industry, providing our customers with a reliable local source of supply.

Service and Engineering Support

BOC Gases employs hundreds of service specilists and engineers at customer service centers in dozens of cities nationwide.

We can tailor a nitrogen supply method based on volume, purity, pressure, power costs and other key parameters. Our engineers can design, engineer, install and maintain the most efficient, cost-effective supply solution for your particular application. In addition, BOC Gases offers a wide range of equipment and systems designed to enhance productivity at the point where nitrogen is delivered and used in your process.
