A functional hydrogen infrastructure hinges on a sufficiently dense network of fueling stations. As a leading hydrogen player, we cover the full hardware chain for both liquid (LH2) and gaseous (GH2) hydrogen. One of the key processes in fueling is compression. Our engineers have developed different compression technologies that allow, for example, hydrogen-powered cars to be fueled in around three minutes – the same time it takes to refuel a petrol or diesel car.
One of these developments is our cryo-pump , which converts liquid hydrogen to high-pressure hydrogen. Another is the ionic compressor. This is used to compress hydrogen stored at a service station in gaseous form. The compressor can also be used with liquid hydrogen. The liquid is simply vaporized and then compressed.
Such is the strength of these innovations that many of the world’s hydrogen fueling stations are now equipped with technology from Linde.
